Childhood & Early Life

Roger Federer was born on 8 August 1981 in Basel, Switzerland, to a Swiss father Robert Federer, and a South African mother Lynette Federer. The mother of Roger Federer was of Dutch and French origins. Federer spent part of his childhood near his French along the French and German border, making him proficient in German, French, and English.

Born a Roman Catholic, he took to playing soccer and tennis in the early years of his life. While everyone in the family loved the sport, it was Federer who was the one who showed the most promise of becoming a star.

Personal Life

He engaged tennis pro Mirka Vavrinec who was a participant in the Women’s Tennis Association on April 11 in 2009. The couple had met during the ‘Sydney Olympics’ of 2000.

Career

When he became a professional for the first time, his first match took place in the final against Lucas Arnold Ker in Gstaad, Switzerland, which he lost. While he was already establishing himself as an amateur tennis player in professional tennis, achieving the same success required time and expertise.

After a few defeats, he took home the ‘Hopman Cup’ together with Martina Hingis by defeating American contestants Monica Seles and Jan-Michael Gambill in 2001. The following year, he scored his first singles win when he defeated Julien Butter at the ‘Milan Indoor Tournament.’
