Ruturaj Dashrat Gaikwad is an Indian cricketer who represents Maharashtra in domestic cricket and the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He was born on January 31, 1997. In July 2021, he made his debut for the Indian cricket team.

Early Life

Ruturaj Gaikwad hails from Pune, Maharashtra and his native village is Pargaon Memane in the Saswad area of Pune district. His father, Dashrath Gaikwad, was employed at the Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO) while his mother, Sawita Gaikwad, works as a teacher in a municipal school. Despite being passionate about cricket, Gaikwad mentioned that his parents never pressured him to study more and play less.

Personal Life

Ruturaj Gaikwad currently resides in the Sangvi locality of Pimpri-Chinchwad in Pune. While he is originally from Pargaon Memane village in the Pune district, his father, Dasharath Gaikwad, served in the Indian Army.

Domestic Career

Ruturaj Gaikwad began his cricketing journey at the age of 13 when he joined the Varroc Dilip Vengsarkar Academy in Thergaon, Pimpri Chinchwad, Pune, which is run by the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC). In the Cadence Trophy of 2010, playing for the Varroc Vengsarkar Academy.

His academy defeated MIG Cricket Club by seven wickets at the Cadence Cricket Ground. In the Maharashtra Invitational Tournament of 2015, he amassed 306 runs in a partnership of 522 runs with his teammate Vinay.

International Career

Ruturaj Gaikwad’s impressive performances in domestic cricket earned him a call-up to India’s One Day International (ODI) and Twenty20 International (T20I) squads for their series against Sri Lanka in June 2021. He made his T20I debut on July 28, 2021, for India against Sri Lanka. In December 2021, Gaikwad was named in India’s ODI squad for their series against South Africa.

He was again included in India’s ODI squad in January 2022, for their home series against the West Indies. In June 2022, he scored his maiden T20I half-century against South Africa, displaying his talent on the international stage.

Indian Premier League

During the player auction for the 2019 Indian Premier League, Gaikwad was acquired by the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in December 2018. In the 2021 tournament, on October 2nd, Gaikwad achieved his first IPL century, scoring an unbeaten 101 against the Rajasthan Royals.

Ruturaj’s success story began with his impressive performance in the 2018-19 domestic circuit. He continued his good form in both white-ball and red-ball cricket, which led to his selection in the 2018 ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup. Despite some inconsistency during the tournament, Ruturaj managed to score 119 runs in 4 innings with one half-century.
