Ryan Gosling was born to Thomas Ray Gosling, a traveling salesman, and Donna, who worked as a secretary and later became a teacher. He has one older sister. Due to his father’s profession, the family moved frequently, leading a nomadic lifestyle. However, when his parents divorced during his childhood, Ryan and his sister lived with their mother.

Ryan attended Cornwall Collegiate and Vocational School before transitioning to Lester B. Pearson High School. During his formative years, he was diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). To provide him with appropriate support, his mother decided to quit her job and homeschool Ryan.
