Production for the film Sarileru Neekevvaru commenced on May 31, 2019, in Hyderabad. The shooting phase began on July 5, 2019, in Kashmir and continued until mid-November 2019. The film was released on January 11, 2020, across 2050 screens worldwide, coinciding with the festive occasion of Sankranti. It was produced with a budget of ₹75 crore.

Plot

A college teacher decides to suspend a student for misbehaving with a girl. However, the teacher later discovers that the student had been drinking before coming to school. Feeling conflicted, the teacher returns home and calls her son, Ajay (not Ajay Krishna), for a discussion. Meanwhile, Ajay Krishna, a Major in the Para SF unit of the Indian Army.

To deliver the news to Ajay’s family without disrupting the preparations for Ajay’s sister’s wedding, Brigadier assigns Ajay Krishna and his colleague, Siva Prasad, with the task. They embark on their journey to Kurnool via train. During their trip, they encounter Samskruthi, an eccentric and comedic young woman.

Development

After numerous speculations, it was officially announced that Mahesh Babu would be the lead actor in the film titled “Sarileru Neekevvaru.” The opening ceremony for the movie took place on May 31, 2019.

Casting

Rashmika Mandanna was cast as the female lead opposite Mahesh Babu in the film, while Vijayashanti made her comeback after 13 years and was also signed for a significant role in the movie. Additionally, Tamannaah was roped in for a special party song in the film.

Filming

The initial schedule of the film was filmed in Kashmir from July 5 to July 20, 2019. For the second schedule, a replica set of Konda Reddy Buruju was meticulously constructed in Ramoji Film City, with an estimated cost of ₹40 million (US$500,000).

Music

The film’s music is composed by Devi Sri Prasad, marking his fifth collaboration with Mahesh Babu and second collaboration with Anil Ravipudi after “F2: Fun and Frustration”. The lyrics for the songs were penned by Devi Sri Prasad, Sri Mani, and Ramajogayya Sastry. Notably, Devi Sri Prasad worked with a special orchestra based in Europe to record the film’s soundtrack and score.

The satellite rights of the film were acquired by Gemini TV, which premiered on 25 March 2020, coinciding with the festival of Ugadi. The film’s television premiere recorded an impressive TRP of 23.4, marking a successful debut on the small screen. Additionally, the digital rights for the film were secured by Amazon Prime Video, allowing viewers to stream it since 1 March 2020.
