Snoop Dogg is an American rapper, who was also known as Snoop Dogg and briefly as Snooplion. He was born Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr., on October 20, 1971. His rise to stardom began when he was featured on Dr. Dre’s first solo single, “Deep Cover,” and then on Dre’s first solo album, The Chronic.

Snoop Dogg was conceived as Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr. in Long Beach, California on October 20, 1971, to Vernall Varnado and Beverly Broadus, a singer, soldier, and mail carrier from Vietnam. Calvin was named after his stepfather Calvin Cordozar Broadus Sr., but Vernall left the family shortly after Calvin was born.

He was a passionate singer, rapper, and pianist from an early age. He graduated from Long Beach Polytechnic High School in 1989. Snoop Dogg was released from high school shortly after being arrested for possession of drugs. He was often in prison for the next three years.

Personal Life

Snoop Dogg, his high school sweetheart Shante Taylor, married him in 1997. They have three children together, Corde, Cordell, and Cori. Dogg filed for divorce in 2004 from Shante citing irreconcilable disagreements. The couple renewed their marriage vows four years later in January 2008.

Career

Broadus adopted the stage name Snoop Dogg at the start of his career and started working with Dr. Dre to create Dre’s first solo album, “The Chronic”. It was a very successful release. Snoop Dogg’s debut album, ‘Doggystyle’ was released in 1993. It was a huge success.

His second album, “Tha Doggfather”, was released in 1996. Although it received positive reviews, it wasn’t as popular as his first.

He signed with Master P’s No Limit Records in 1998 and made his debut on the label with “Da Game Is to be Sold, Not to Be Told”. His other albums, titled “No Limit Top Dogg” (1999) or “Tha Last Meal” (2000), were released over the years.

Snoop Dogg won the American Music Award in 1995 for the ‘Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Artist’. He was awarded the 2005 International Dance Music Award in the Best Rap/Hip-Hop Dance Track category for his song “Drop It Like It’s HOT”.
