During the 2004–05 WNBA off-season, Sue Bird played in Russia alongside Storm teammate Kamila Vodichkova for Dynamo Moscow, followed by the 2005–06 season where they reached the Russian championship and the Euroleague women’s playoffs.

In the 2006–07 WNBA off-season, Bird joined Storm teammate Lauren Jackson, as well as Diana Taurasi and Svetlana Abrosimova from UConn, to play for Spartak Moscow Region, winning both the Russian Super League and the EuroLeague Women championships. She continued playing with the team for the following four WNBA off-seasons.

WNBA

Selected as the first overall pick in the 2002 WNBA draft by the Seattle Storm, Sue Bird joined forces with superstar Lauren Jackson, who was also a top draft pick. In her rookie season, Bird started all 32 games, averaging 14.4 ppg and earning a spot on the 2002 WNBA Western Conference All-Star team. Despite being the runner-up for the Rookie of the Year award, she was one of only two rookies to make the All-WNBA First Team, leading the Storm to their first playoff appearance alongside Jackson. Throughout her career, Bird has been a consistent presence on the Western Conference All-Star team, showcasing her talent year after year.

National Team Career

Sue Bird showcased her talent with USA Basketball, starting all four games as a member of the 2000 Jones Cup Team and leading the team with 17 assists, securing the gold medal in Taipei, Taiwan.
