Birth, Education, and Early Life

Sunil Chhetri was born on the 3rd of August 1984 in Secunderabad, India to KB Chhetri (father) and Sushila Chhetri (mother). Sunil’s father was a retired officer of the EME Corps of the Indian Army while his mother was a player with the Nepal Women’s National Team along with her twin sister.

Sunil attended the Bahai School in Sikkim and later graduated from Asutosh College, Kolkata. Sunil Chhetri is a brother to Bandana Chhetri. In his early years, his family was in an economic crisis, and did not have enough money to fulfill his dreams.

Football Career

He began his football career with Mohun Bagan Athletic Club of the National Football League after playing with City FC of New Delhi. The first time he played in the 2002-03 season, he scored four goals, and the team finished 7th place in the table.

In the 2003-04 season, Chhetri was able to score just two goals while the club was ranked 9th in the table. In his final season at Mohun Bagan, he scored two goals, and the team was ranked 8th place in the table.
