Toofaan (translated as “Storm”) is a sports drama film in the Hindi language that was released in 2021. The movie was directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and features Farhan Akhtar, Paresh Rawal, Mrunal Thakur, and Hussain Dalal in the lead roles. The story revolves around Aziz Ali, a destitute individual from Dongri, who resorts to extortion and physically assaults shopkeepers to earn money.

Ananya reproaches him for his involvement in extortion and promptly dismisses him from the hospital. Toofaan made its debut on July 16, 2021, exclusively on the streaming platform Amazon Prime Video.
Plot
In the bustling neighborhood of Dongri, Aziz Ali, an orphaned extortionist, resorts to violence against shopkeepers to make a living. However, his life takes an unexpected turn when he gets involved in a fight and ends up in a hospital. There, he encounters Dr. Ananya Prabhu, who sternly criticizes him for his criminal activities and demands that he leave.
Fate leads Aziz to a local boxing school, where he stumbles upon a video of the legendary boxer Muhammad Ali. Inspired by Ali’s greatness, Aziz decides to embark on a new path and pursue boxing as a means to transform his life.

Production
The filming for Toofaan began in Dongri on August 26, 2019, and wrapped up in March 2020. During the production, Darshan Kumar, who portrays the character of boxer Dharmesh Patil, received training from Darrell Foster, a renowned trainer known for working with Hollywood actor Will Smith. Additionally, professional boxer Neeraj Goyat.
Soundtrack
Toofaan features a diverse music composition team, including Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy, Dub Sharma, Samuel–Akanksha, and Daniel Lozinski. The film’s soundtrack showcases a collaboration of talents from different musicians. The lyrics for the songs are penned by renowned lyricists Javed Akhtar, D’Evil, and Manoj Kumar Nath.
Release
Initially, the movie was scheduled for release on October 2, 2020, coinciding with Gandhi Jayanti, a significant national holiday in India. However, the release date was moved up to September 18, 2020. Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic in India.

After its release, Toofaan received a mixed response from film critics. While Farhan Akhtar’s performance was widely appreciated, the screenplay and predictable plot of the film faced criticism.
