In 1967, Tulasi was just three months old when she made her Telugu debut. A baby was required for a song in this film. Tulasi was placed in the crib by actress Savitri, who was a close friend of Tulasi. When she was just one-and-half years old, she was featured in a song in Jeevanatarangalu. She said she became an actor at three. She hadn’t been to school.

At 28 years old, she married Sivamani, a Kannada director. She said that she met Sivamani in the morning, and they tied the knot at night. He has one son, Sai Tarun. After getting married, Tulasi decided to stop acting and only worked as a voice actor in Telugu movies, including those by Mani Ratnam.
