Varun Chakravarthy Vinod, born on August 29, 1991, is an Indian cricketer renowned for his leg-spin bowling. He currently represents Tamil Nadu in domestic cricket and Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League (IPL). In July 2021, he made his debut for the Indian cricket team at the international level.

Varun Chakravarthy was born into a prosperous Hindu family in Karnataka that adheres to Hindu customs and beliefs. He too is a devout follower of Hinduism and worships the deities. C.V. Vinod, Varun’s father, is employed with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), while his mother, Malini Chakravarthy, is a homemaker.

Apart from his parents, Varun has a sister named Vanditha Chakravarthy. He tied the knot with his childhood friend Neha Khedekar in 2020 and is currently married. The couple does not have any children as of now. Varun’s wife’s name is Neha Khedekar.

Early Life

Chakravarthy Ambig, born on August 29, 1991, hails from Bidar in Karnataka. He completed his schooling in Chennai at Kendriya Vidyalaya CLRI and St. Patrick’s Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School, where he developed a passion for cricket. Later, he obtained a bachelor’s degree in architecture from SRM University. However, at the age of 25, he decided to quit his job as an architect and pursue a cricket career full-time.

Personal Life

In addition to his cricketing pursuits, Chakravarthy also made a cameo appearance as a club cricketer in the 2014 Indian Tamil-language sports drama film Jeeva. He tied the knot with his long-time girlfriend Neha Khedekar on December 11, 2020, in a private ceremony held in Chennai.

Career

Varun made his List A debut for Tamil Nadu during the 2018-19 Vijay Hazare Trophy on September 20, 2018. He emerged as the highest wicket-taker for Tamil Nadu in the same tournament, clinching twenty-two dismissals in nine matches. Varun also made his first-class debut for Tamil Nadu during the 2018-19 Ranji Trophy on November 12, 2018.

Domestic Career

Varun caught the attention of cricket enthusiasts in 2018 while representing the Siechem Madurai Panthers in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL). During the tournament, he picked up nine wickets in ten matches and bowled as many as 125 dot balls out of the 240 he delivered.

IPL Career

In December 2018, Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) acquired Varun Chakravarthy for a whopping sum of 8.4 crores during the 2019 Indian Premier League (IPL) auction. However, he was released by the franchise ahead of the 2020 IPL auction. In the same auction, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) picked him up for the 2020 IPL season.
