Principal photography began in September 2018 and concluded in March 2019. Initially referred to as Fighters, the film’s official title was later announced as War on 15 July 2019, coinciding with the release of its teaser. The production budget for the film amounted to ₹150 crore (US$19 million), with an additional ₹20 crore (US$2.5 million) allocated for print and advertising expenses.

Plot

In a surprising turn of events, Major Kabir Dhaliwal deviates from his assigned mission to eliminate the Iraqi terrorist, Farid Haqqani and instead eliminates V. K. Naidu, a veteran RAW agent, in New Delhi. The Defense Minister, Sherna Patel, and Colonel Sunil Luthra, who leads the agency, take immediate action and summon Captain Khalid Rahmani, Kabir’s protégé, with the task of apprehending him.

As the story unfolds, it is revealed that Khalid’s father, Major Abdul Rahmani, had betrayed the army in a previous mission. This act of betrayal resulted in Kabir sustaining two gunshot wounds and the apparent death of his partner, Wazir, who is later revealed to be alive. Seeking justice, Kabir tracks down and eliminates Abdul for his betrayal.

Development

Yash Raj Films unveiled a fresh action film on the occasion of Yash Chopra’s birth anniversary, featuring the dynamic duo of Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff in the lead roles.[10] The talented actress Vaani Kapoor was selected to portray the female lead character. To bring forth gripping and exhilarating action sequences.

Filming

Principal photography for the film commenced during the second week of September 2018. One notable highlight of the movie is a captivating dance-off between the two stars featured in the song “Jai Jai Shivshankar.” The filming schedule was completed in early March 2019.

Music

The music of the film is composed by Vishal–Shekhar, while the lyrics are written by Kumaar. All themes are composed by Sanchit Balhara and Ankit Balhara.

The film was released on 2 October 2019, coinciding with Gandhi Jayanti.

War made a remarkable opening at the box office, amassing an impressive collection of ₹53.35 crore on its first day, setting a new record for the highest opening day collection in the Hindi film industry. On the second day, it continued its successful run and garnered ₹24.35 crore. The film maintained its strong performance on the third day, collecting ₹22.45 crore. With these figures, War’s total collection reached a commendable ₹100.15 crores.
