Early Life

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, born on September 21, 1988, at Lady Dufferin Hospital in Karachi, Pakistan, is a prominent figure in Pakistani politics. He belongs to the distinguished Bhutto family, known for their political legacy in Pakistan. Bilawal’s parents are Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto and Asif Ali Zardari, and his maternal grandfather was the former President of Pakistan, Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto. Bilawal has two sisters, Asifa Bhutto and Bakhtawar Bhutto.

Education

Bilawal initially attended the prestigious Lahore College Aitchison, but due to security concerns, he had to discontinue his studies there. As a result, he enrolled at Karachi Grammar School when his mother was serving her second term as the Prime Minister.

He also studied at the International Froebel School in Islamabad. In April 1999, Bilawal left Pakistan with his mother, who was in self-imposed exile. During this time, his father was imprisoned in Pakistan from 1996 to 2004 on charges of corruption.

Personal Life

Bilawal has two younger sisters, Bakhtawar and Asifa. His name, Bilawal, means “one without equal” in Arabic. Although his first language is English, he is also proficient in Arabic and Urdu.

Political Journey

The year 2018 was a significant one for both the PPP and Bilawal, as the party made history by being the first political party to release its election manifesto for the 2018 General Elections. This was the 10th manifesto published by the party, titled “Bibi ka Waada Nibhaana Hai Pakistan Bachana Hai” (We have to fulfill Benazir’s promise and save Pakistan).

Political Career

Bilawal was appointed as the Chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party following the assassination of former Prime Minister Shaheed Benazir Bhutto in Liaquat Bagh, Rawalpindi. After Benazir’s death, Bilawal’s father, Asif Zardari, assumed power. During Zardari’s regime, Bilawal remained out of Pakistani politics and kept a low profile until 2017-18.

However, during this period, Bilawal emerged as a prominent figure in Pakistani politics and led the campaign for the 2018 General Elections. He attended party meetings and gatherings across all provinces and spearheaded the PPP’s election campaign. Bilawal also submitted his nominations for three constituencies – Larkana, Malakand, and Karachi.
