Plot

In the city of Mumbai, a film critic named Nitin Srivatsav is discovered dead in his residence, prompting IG Arvind Mathur to take charge of the investigation. Arvind determines that Nitin’s body was mutilated using a surgical knife and marked with a symbol on his forehead, the meaning of which eludes him. Meanwhile, Danny, a florist, crosses paths with Nila Menon, an entertainment reporter, and a mutual attraction blossoms between them.

As the story unfolds, another film critic named Irshaad Ali meets a tragic fate, crushed under a train. Simultaneously, the bond between Danny and Nila grows stronger. On Nila’s birthday, which coincides with the death anniversary of the renowned actor and director Guru Dutt, Danny surprises her with a special gesture.

Production

In July 2021, it was confirmed that R. Balki would be directing a film based on the life of Guru Dutt. The project is being produced by Hope Production, with Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, Jayantilal Gada, and Gauri Shinde serving as producers. Filmmaker R. Balki stated that cinema legend Guru Dutt served as the perfect reference point for his thriller film “Chup: Revenge of the Artist.”

The movie explores the pain experienced by an artist due to “wrong criticism.” A teaser of “Chup” was released on Dutt’s 97th birth anniversary, paying tribute to the late director’s film “Kaagaz Ke Phool.”

Soundtrack

The music of the film is composed by Amit Trivedi, Sneha Khanwalkar, and S. D. Burman with lyrics written by Swanand Kirkire and Sahir Ludhianvi.

Chup: Revenge of the Artist was released on September 23, 2022. The satellite and streaming rights for the film were acquired by Zee TV and ZEE5. Following its theatrical release, the movie was digitally released on November 25, 2022.
