Plot
The story unfolds in the fictional village of Pondolem, located in Goa, where a new con man arrives and joins the recently established local police station. While exploring the station alongside a constable, he spots a man named Vijay Salgaonkar sitting at one end. Curious, the newcomer inquires if the man is indeed Vijay Salgaonkar and the constable affirms. At that moment, the film delves into a flashback as “Vijay” closes his eyes, transporting the audience to his past.
Vijay Salgaonkar is portrayed as an orphan who discontinued his education after completing the fourth grade. Presently, he leads a content life as a businessman, managing a cable TV service in Goa. He is happily married to Nandini, and together they have two daughters—Anju, whom Vijay has lovingly adopted and is currently studying in twelfth grade, and Anu, who is a sixth-grade student.

Casting
In October 2014, it was initially announced that Saif Ali Khan would assume the lead role and portray the character previously played by Mohanlal in the 2013 Malayalam film. However, subsequent reports were suggesting that Akshay Kumar would take on the lead role. Eventually, in November 2014, it was officially confirmed that Ajay Devgn would star in the Hindi remake of the 2013 film Drishyam.
Soundtrack

Critical Reception
According to Meena Iyer of The Times of India, the film received a rating of four out of five stars. She characterized it as a suspenseful drama with a gripping and thrilling conclusion. While Iyer expressed some criticism regarding the casting choices for certain members of the Salgaonkar family, she had high praise for the performances of Ajay Devgn and Tabu.
Box office
By the end of its first week, Drishyam had amassed an impressive gross of around ₹463 million (equivalent to US$5.8 million). Within 13 days of its release, the movie went on to gross approximately ₹629 million (equivalent to US$7.9 million) at the domestic box office. After its second week, the film’s total earnings reached approximately ₹64.17 crore (equivalent to US$8.0 million).
