Early Life

He was born on 17 September 1950 to a family of grocers in Vadnagar, Mehsana district, Bombay State (present Gujarat) In his childhood days, Modi helped his father in selling tea at the Vadnagar Railway Station and later ran a tea stall with his brother near a bus terminus. In 1967, he completed his higher secondary education in Vadnagar.

At the age of 8 years, he joined Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). He didn’t want to marry so he left home at the age of 17 and traveled across the country for the next two years. In his interviews, he said that in these two years, he visited several ashrams founded by Swami Vivekananda.

Family

His Father’s name is Late Damondardas Mulchand Modi and his mother’s name is Heeraben. He has Three Brothers Soma (75 years old), who is a retired officer of the health department, Prahald (age 62 years), who runs a shop in Ahmedabad, and Pankaj (age 57 Years), who is a clerk in the information department Headquarters, Gandhinagar.

He has Two Sisters Vasantiben Hasmukhlal Model and Amrut. Lives to Do Yoga and Reading. His House Address is 7 Race Course Road, New Delhi. There are 6 siblings in his family including him. He is the third son of his parents. His two elder brothers “Soma Modi” was an officer of the health department and “Amrut Modi” was the operator of Lathe Machines.
