Career as a Naval Officer

He was a member of Prince Philip and joined the Royal Navy as a cadet in 1939. He followed in the steps of his father, Prince Louis, who was Admiral of the Fleet and the First Sea Lord.

After completing his initial education under the supervision of Best Cadet at the time of his admission, Prince Philip spent six months in the Indian Ocean as a Midshipman aboard the battleship HMS RAMILLIES in 1940.

Prince Philip was subsequently promoted to sub-lieutenant before being assigned to the HMS Wallace destroyer. In 1942, he was appointed the First Lieutenant of the ship at the very young age of 21.

Death

Philip was killed in Windsor Castle on the morning of April 9, 2021. He was 99 when he died. On April 17 the body lay to rest in St. George’s Chapel in Windsor. Because of COVID-19, just 30 royals were present as they remained separated from each other and were wearing masks.
