Rana Naidu is the official adaptation of the 2013 crime TV series, Ray Donovan. The series features Venkatesh Daggubati, Rana Daggubati, Suchitra Pillai, Gaurav Chopra, and Surveen Chawla in the lead roles. It was released on 10 March 2023, exclusively on Netflix.
Premise
Rana Naidu is a professional known as the “fixer of the stars,” who specializes in resolving the problems of his famous clients. He is dedicated to his work and takes it seriously. However, Rana’s personal life is in disarray, with his relationship with his wife and children suffering. Despite his expertise in fixing issues and helping others lead stress-free lives, he struggles to repair his family bonds.
Adding to the complications, Rana’s estranged father, Naga Naidu, is released from prison after being wrongfully convicted for a crime he did not commit. Naga is determined to reconcile with Rana and his other sons, seeking to become the father figure he failed to be in the past. As he sets out for revenge, the situation becomes even more challenging for Rana and his family.

Filming
Principal photography commenced in October 2021. The series was officially wrapped up shooting in May 2022.

Reception
Sangeetha Devi Dundoo of The Hindu expressed that beneath the provocative elements of sex, alcohol, and expletives, Rana Naidu carries an underlying sense of sadness. Cinematographer Jayakrishna Gummadi effectively employs warm and dark tones to enhance the somber atmosphere, complemented by John Stewart Eduri’s background score.
Raghu Bandi of The Indian Express mentioned that while the overall theme of a fractured family striving to reconcile resonates with Indian sensibilities, the treatment of the subject may not appeal to everyone’s taste.
