Family & Personal Life
Rohini Hattangadi, born on April 11, 1951, in Pune, Maharashtra, India, was raised in a family with a strong connection to the world of theatre. Her father, Anant Oak, being a theatre artist, played a significant role in inspiring her to pursue a career in the same field. After completing her education at Renuka Swaroop Memorial Girls High School in Pune in 1966, she followed her passion and joined the esteemed National School of Drama (NSD) in New Delhi in 1971.
It was during her time at NSD that she crossed paths with Jayadev Hattangadi, who was also a part of her batch. Together, they founded a Marathi theatre group called Awishkar in 1971. This initiative has since thrived and has become a prolific platform, producing over 150 plays. Awishkar has played a crucial role in nurturing the talents of numerous aspiring actors, directors, and technicians, helping them refine their skills and make their mark in the world of theatre.
Early Life
Despite the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) being located in her hometown Pune, Rohini chose not to join it. Her primary interest lay in theatre, and she did not have immediate plans to venture into cinema. Her main aspiration was to become a skilled and accomplished actor, focusing on honing her craft in the world of theatre.
Career
Theatre

While she was still studying at the National School of Drama (NSD) in Mumbai, she, along with Jayadev, initiated a Marathi theatre group named “Awishkar” in the city.
