Plot

Captain Vikrant Khanna, a skilled pilot, finds himself in a challenging situation as he prepares for a flight from Dubai to Cochin. Despite indulging in alcohol and late-night festivities before the flight, he boards the aircraft feeling fatigued. His co-pilot, Tanya Albuquerque, joins him for the journey. However, unexpected circumstances arise when a cyclone hits Cochin, forcing them to consider an alternate landing destination.

Against Albuquerque’s objections, Captain Khanna suggests diverting the flight to Trivandrum. His decision sparks scrutiny during the subsequent inquiry. It is during this inquiry that Khanna unveils a remarkable ability: a photographic memory. He explains that despite closing his eyes during the landing, he vividly imagined and remembered every detail, allowing him to execute the landing flawlessly.

Development

The film was originally titled Mayday. In November 2021, the name of the upcoming film was changed to Runway 34. The number “34” in the film’s title was chosen because that was Ajay’s age when his daughter Nysa was born. The film is based on true events, in which a plane from Doha to Kochi landed with only a very small amount of fuel left.

Filming

On 7th November 2020, the official announcement of the film “Runway 34” was made, generating excitement among fans and the film fraternity. Principal photography for the movie commenced on 11th December 2020 in Hyderabad, India. The film’s production team chose Hyderabad and Mumbai as the primary shooting locations to bring the story to life.

Music

The film’s music was composed by Jasleen Royal while the lyrics were written by Aditya Sharma.

Release

The film was released theatrically on 29 April 2022, coinciding with the festival of Eid. It was released on Amazon Prime Video on 24 June 2022.
