After a brief break from acting as a child, Shalini returned in 1997 as a leading lady in Malayalam and Tamil language films. She tied the knot with renowned Tamil actor Ajith Kumar on April 24, 2000, and subsequently retired from the movie industry.

Shalini’s father’s name is Babu and her mother’s name is Alice, however, there is no further information available about her family. In 1999, while filming Saran’s Amarkalam, Shalini started a relationship with her co-star Ajith Kumar, who later proposed to her.

Early Life

Shalini, the former Indian actress and child artist, was born on November 20, 1979, in a Protestant Malayali Christian family to Babu and Alice. Her father hails from Kollam and had moved to Madras with the dream of becoming an actor, where the family eventually settled. Shalini is the middle child, with a younger sister named Shamili and an elder brother named Richard, who are also actors in the film industry. She completed her college education at Annamalai University.

Personal Life

Shalini commenced a romantic relationship with her co-star Ajith Kumar during the filming of Saran’s Amarkalam in 1999. Subsequently, Ajith Kumar proposed to Shalini and they tied the knot on 24 April 2000 in Chennai. After their nuptials, Shalini decided to retire from acting, having completed two unfinished projects. The couple now has two children.

Career

Shalini’s journey in the film industry began as a child artist in Ente Mamattikkuttiyammakku, and she went on to act in all of Fazil’s films. She even played the lead role in the TV serial Amloo, which was broadcast on Doordarshan in the late 1980s. Shalini became popular for her signature haircut, a short bob with a front fringe, known as the “Baby Shalini haircut.”

After taking a break to focus on her studies, Shalini returned to acting with the blockbuster movie Aniyathipravu. Her next film, Kaliyoonjal (1997), received mixed reviews despite co-starring with Mammootty and Dileep. Aniyathipravu’s success in Malayalam prompted Fazil to remake it in Tamil as Kadhalukku Mariyadhai (1997). While Fazil initially considered casting a newcomer for the female lead, Shalini insisted on playing the part in the Tamil version as well.
