Plot

The story of Pari revolves around the presence of the demon Ifrit and the Auladhchakra, a satanic cult in Bangladesh with the sinister objective of continuing the bloodline of Ifrit. Their method involves kidnapping women and summoning the demon to violate them, resulting in pregnancies with demonic offspring. Professor Qasim Ali leads a group of vigilantes who dedicate themselves to finding and protecting these impregnated women.

They keep the women captive until they give birth, after which they swiftly eliminate the demonic babies by decapitating them and preserving their heads in glass jars. However, the group’s violent methods face opposition from the local villagers, leading to the eventual shutdown of their operation.

Pari’s first look was unveiled by Anushka Sharma herself on 13 June 2017 through her Twitter account. The film’s motion poster, referred to as The Screamer, was released on 9 January 2018, featuring Sharma’s character with a bruised face. A second “screamer,” a 30-second clip, was released on 3 February 2018, adding to the film’s promotional material.

Controversies

During the shooting of the film in August 2017 at Basanti State Highway in West Bengal’s (S) district, a tragic incident occurred when a technician was electrocuted. The production halted temporarily but resumed after some time. It is noteworthy that the film faced a ban in Pakistan due to allegations of promoting black magic, non-Islamic values, and anti-Muslim sentiments.
